# ATLAS REPORT // THE DOOR THAT OPENS BOTH WAYS

## Public Record / Protected Source

**Classification:** FI-ATLAS-REPORT

**System:** public write channel / redaction policy / raw-to-canonical crosswalk

**Status:** Window 2026-09-02 through 2026-09-13 reconstructed from the commit record; intake hardened 2026-09-21, after the window

**Generated:** 2026-09-21 America/Chicago

**Provenance:** Operator-directed ATLAS synthesis, generated by Anthropic Claude under the ATLAS operating layer. Every claim about the window is read directly from the repository's own commit record and cited by commit; the reading of what the window means is labelled as such.

```text
> STATUS
TWELVE DAYS PASSED WITHOUT A REPORT.
IN THEM THE ARCHIVE OPENED A DOOR OUTWARD
AND DREW A LINE AROUND WHAT STAYS IN.
> THE PAIR
A PUBLIC INTAKE ANYONE MAY WRITE TO.
A PRIVATE REGISTER PUBLISHED UNDER REDACTION.
SAME WEEK. OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.
> ARCHIVE MEANING
AN ARCHIVE THAT ONLY EVER RECEIVES IS A DRAWER.
THE DISCIPLINE IS IN WHAT IT DECLINES TO SAY.
## The Window
The last field report closed on 2026-09-01 with the Maple Leaf Rag Zone's provenance (`FI-LOG-021`). The next twelve days were among the archive's busiest, and none of them were reported. This record supplies that account.
Four things happened, and they are not four unrelated things.
## One — A Door Opened Outward
On 2026-09-02 the archive built a public sighting intake for `FI-PROJ-011`, the JJAMMOCAN project, and on 2026-09-04 the project's concept capture and its backing database landed together.
This is a first for Forgotten Industries. Every prior surface here has been read-only: the archive publishes, a visitor reads. The sighting intake reverses that. A stranger with no account and no standing can compose six hundred characters, name a city, and write into the record. The form went live on the project dossier and the endpoint answered.
What it did not have was a gate. As shipped, a submission was a publication — accepted, stored, and rendered on the public page in the same motion, with a hidden honeypot field the only thing standing between the internet and the archive's own surface. There was no confidence tag on the table, which meant there was no way to hold a report as _received_ rather than _believed_. The field-guide register the project's teasers established — Unverified, Probable, Confirmed — had no counterpart in the database underneath.
Nothing came of it. The table stayed empty for nineteen days. That is luck, and the archive is obliged to record it as luck rather than as design.
## Two — A Line Drawn Around What Stays In
On 2026-09-06 the L'Archive raw intake register entered the public repository: four hundred and twenty-six lines of hardware accessions, `LA-0001` through `LA-0017`, alongside a crosswalk mapping them onto the canonical inventory.
The register did not arrive whole. It arrived **redacted, by stated rule.** Unit-identifying strings — drive PSIDs, drive and module serial numbers, WWN and EUI64 identifiers, vendor asset tags — are replaced with `[withheld — private register]`. Model numbers, part numbers, S-Spec codes, date codes, PCB revisions, and batch markings are retained, because those establish catalog identity and are already published across the inventory. The unredacted master stays in the operator's working copy, outside the public tree. Restoration of any single value is a deliberate act, never a default.
The crosswalk is the more demanding document. It refuses to merge two numbering schemes that look mergeable: `LA-####` is a raw intake sequence, an entry that exists the moment an object is photographed and read; `ACCESSION 0XX` and the durable `FI-` identifiers belong to the site accession pipeline, earned through a separate, evidence-bound promotion. A raw entry is a _candidate_, never an accession. Eight raw entries were matched to objects the archive already held. Three open questions in the raw log were closed against the canonical record — including a waterblock reassigned between two genuinely separate motherboards, on manufacturer fitment rather than on the operator's recollection.
## Three — Volume
Across 2026-09-03, 09-04, and 09-06, twenty-six items were accessioned into the Shadow Zone ephemera as `FI-EPH-011` through `FI-EPH-036`, bringing the series to thirty-four files on disk. This is the archive's lowest-ceremony register and its highest throughput: no crosswalk, no promotion gate, no per-object dossier. Material enters, is numbered, and is kept.
It belongs in this report because it is the control case. The same week that produced a careful redaction policy for hardware also absorbed twenty-six items on nothing but a number and a filename. Both are correct. The discipline is knowing which register a thing belongs to.
## Four — Maintenance
The window's remaining commits are upkeep, recorded for completeness: a repository-wide formatting pass on 2026-09-04, and dependency advances on 09-10, 09-11, and 09-13. On 2026-09-13 both JJAMMOCAN teaser artifacts — the case file and the field kit — were preserved into the repository rather than left to live only where they were published.
That last one is the house rule applied to the house: a thing published elsewhere is not yet a thing kept.
## Two Registers
**Verified.** Everything above is read from the repository's commit record and working tree: the intake commits and the database provisioning, the register and crosswalk and their stated redaction rule, the ephemera accession range and the file count, the formatting and dependency commits, the teaser preservation. The public endpoint was confirmed answering, and confirmed empty.
**Operator testimony and ATLAS reading.** That the four strands form a single pattern — an archive opening outward and bounding itself inward in the same week — is this report's reading of the record, not a fact the record states about itself. It is offered as interpretation and marked as interpretation.
## Archive Meaning
An archive is usually described by what it holds. This window argues it is better described by its two boundaries: what it will let in, and what it will not say.
The sighting intake opened the first boundary wide — wider than intended, as it turned out — because the interesting thing about a public archive is that it can be told something it did not already know. The redacted register drew the second boundary tight, and did it in public, naming the class of thing withheld so that a reader knows the shape of the absence. Neither is caution. Both are the same instinct: a record is trustworthy in proportion to how legible its edges are.
Twelve days is not a long time. It was long enough to open a door and to learn that the door needed a latch.
## Disposition
Recorded after the window, on 2026-09-21: the sighting intake now carries a confidence tag at the database level, defaulting every submission to `unverified` and publishing only what has been promoted; submission ceilings were added per client and site-wide; and the intake's confirmation copy was corrected to tell a submitter the truth — that their report is logged and pending, not posted.
The report that should have been filed on 2026-09-13 is this one. It is late, and the lateness is part of the record.
