What is known

Found image supplied for The Shadow Zone: a captioned frame from The Simpsons in which Homer, labeled "My family pc," opens his front door on a rainy night to a gunman whose head has been replaced with the green LimeWire logo. The gunman is labeled "LiNkiNg PaRk-nUmB.exe," with the deliberately mangled capitalization of a file pulled from a peer-to-peer network. The meme recalls the era of malware disguised as song downloads; that premise is reproduced as found. Maker, origin, and date are not recorded. The exif scrub reported no location metadata to strip.

The Shadow Zone

A holding zone for surreal found media and uncanny artifacts that surface around the archive — images with no clear origin, kept as evidence of the culture that accretes on forgotten machines.
