Wrist & Portable Measurement

This manual establishes a working taxonomy for wrist-worn and portable field instruments inside Forgotten Industries. It is not a buying guide and not yet a dossier. It is a reference plate: a compact instrument used to compare cases, track acquisitions, preserve observed examples, and identify adjacent objects worthy of future archive records.

What belongs on the wrist, in the pocket, or in the field bag of an archive built against forgetting?

Vostok case comparison.

Case L2L Diameter Verdict Notes
710 · Ministry ~45mm ~41mm Best balance Cushion shape, tapered profile, and enough presence for the wrist without losing comfort.
170 ~46mm ~42mm Strong Large on paper and on wrist; a useful bridge between the 710 and 090 families.
090 · Tonneau ~42mm Strong Rectangular tonneau shape adds visual heft beyond the diameter figure.
120 ~49mm ~40mm Biggest L2L Tall relative to width; can read clunky despite the useful lug-to-lug number.
100 40mm Solid 12mm thick with 18mm lugs. Comfortable middle ground.
420 ~40mm Runs small Short lugs and no crown guards. Same dial options, less wrist presence.
110 Skip Lugs do not curve down; rides high and does not suit the working target.
Komandirskie standard ~37-40mm 37-38mm Dress size 30m water resistance only. Prefer Komandirskie 200m / 43-case crossover examples.

Vostok Blue Diver

Auto movement, rubber strap, blue sunburst dial, "Восток" branding, and dotted bezel insert in matching blue. Reference example of the cushion-case diver family in a colorway not yet covered by the roster.

Future comparison target against the 710/170 case notes in Section 01.

Portable measurement, orientation, and timekeeping.

Compass

Adrianov Compass

Soviet Army wrist/pocket compass with mil-graduated dial, Bakelite or metal housing, and natural wrist pairing with a Vostok.

Compass

AK Artillery Compass

Adrianov sibling with hinged mirror cover for simultaneous orientation and angle reading. Mils, not degrees.

Wind

Soviet Anemometer

Manual wind-speed meter from the same material era as the watch collection. Working examples remain obtainable.

Calculation

Sun Hemmi Slide Rule

Bamboo-bodied Japanese pocket slide rule. Engineer/scientist kit before calculators; genuinely portable field instrument.

Time

Molnija 24h Pocket Watch

Caliber suffix 23/24 marks the rare 24-hour Molnija variant. Long-term rarity hunt.

Chronograph

Type 20 Chronograph

French Air Force flyback chronograph specification. Vintage examples are collector tier; modern reissues remain aspirational reference points.

Sizing and source status remain attached.

This manual was compiled from a single extended research session in June 2026. It converts the concept PDF into a public, maintainable reference page while preserving the PDF as a source artifact.

Case sizing guidance is calibrated to Matthew's larger wrist and 6'4" frame. Lug-to-lug and presence notes should not be generalized to smaller wrists without fresh measurement.

D'en haut, les choses se souviennent les unes des autres.

From above, things remember one another.
