The provisional Ryzen system stays on the bench.
It is not Le Rédempteur. Not yet.
Its present job is smaller and more useful: prove the processor, memory, cooling, power path, and firmware state without confusing a successful boot with a finished restoration. The Thermaltake supply, Ryzen 5 7600, and Wraith Stealth belong to a controlled validation pass. No permanent archive role has been assigned to them.
The primary object remains the white CaseLabs Mercury S8 and its pedestal: FI-CASE-001, FI-PED-001, and the recovered hardware held under FI-PROJ-001.
The division of labor
The working architecture is simple.
The main cube is the shrine. It carries the visible compute platform, reservoir, dual D5 pumps, Aquaero control layer, recovered blocks, and the selected parts whose condition and provenance justify their return.
The pedestal is the machine room. It carries the lower mechanical work: radiator capacity, power, storage, cable management, service drain, and the quick-disconnect boundary between the two structures.
The current pedestal concept divides that work laterally. One side may carry a 360 mm radiator, intake airflow, and the recovered eight-drive archive mount. The other may carry the power supply, cable and SAS routing, the service drain, and a second radiator only if measured fit and thermal need justify it.
That arrangement is not final. FI-PED-001 remains stored and pending physical inspection. Radiator placement, power-supply location, drive orientation, midplate height, and any pass-through work remain provisional until the bare structure is photographed, measured, and assembled dry.
The cooling rule
The recovered inventory contains more cooling hardware than the machine needs. That is not a command to use all of it.
The current baseline is one serviceable serial loop with two or three active 360 mm radiators. Dual D5 pumps, the Aquaero 6 XT, the EK reservoir, white Noiseblocker eLoops, barbs, clamps, EPDM service lines, sensors, and QDC isolation remain the favored language of the system—but every reused part must first pass inspection and bench testing.
The visible chamber may retain selected hardline or gold fitting details as recovered evidence. The service path below should remain legible, drainable, and repairable.
Museum artifact above. Field repair below.
The archive inside the archive
The pedestal may eventually hold a ZFS-based storage array.
That is the most literal version of the idea: the archive contains its own archive. But old drives will not be trusted merely because their age looks correct. Historical media can be documented as artifacts while practical storage is chosen by measured health, redundancy, heat, noise, and serviceability.
Spectacle does not outrank custody.
Return sequence
The next operation is not a full powered build.
- Prove the provisional Ryzen bench independently.
- Photograph and inspect the bare pedestal, its mounting faces, chambers, underside, casters, plates, and fasteners.
- Dry-assemble the empty S8 and pedestal.
- Test the AX1500i cable set, radiators, pumps, Aquaero, fans, reservoir, seals, fittings, and QDCs as separate subsystems.
- Mock up power, storage, airflow, drain, and pass-through routes before drilling or cutting.
- Freeze the architecture only after physical fit is known.
- Build and leak-test the proof loop with the compute hardware unpowered.
- Install compute and storage after the mechanical and cooling systems have earned trust.
The restoration does not need to prove itself by becoming complicated quickly.
It needs to preserve the machine, recover the method, and leave a record another operator could follow.
Old systems do not wake by force. They wake by sequence.
