What is known

Operator reports eight 450 GB WD VelociRaptor drives acquired for the CaseLabs pedestal storage assembly around 2014. Four units inspected through a USB bridge on 2026-07-20 each reported model WD4500BLHX-01V7BV0 and 450.1 GB capacity. None presented a recognized partition map. Read-only probes of the first three logged no physical I/O errors; the fourth bridge session did not permit a direct raw-device read. The USB bridge did not expose SMART data. WD product literature distinguishes the WD4500BLHX as the 2.5-inch drive and the WD4500HLHX as the 3.5-inch IcePack-equipped assembly. Do not promote any unit to working-array status before direct-SATA identity, SMART, short and extended self-tests, and a complete read pass. Individual non-public test handles VR-01 through VR-08 may be assigned after label photography; serial numbers remain outside the public record.
