L'ARCHIVE exists to interrupt that failure.

THE ARCHIVE HAS THREE INDEPENDENT LAYERS.

    Physical

    The box, the foam, the object, the identifier. This layer must survive without computers.

  2. II

    Digital

    The index, images, search, version history, and future LE-BOX-000 interface. Useful, but not the archive itself.

  3. III

    Protocol

    The rules for entry, revision, provenance, deaccession, replicas, and identifier reuse. This is the durable layer.

BUILD THE STORAGE-DISPLAY DEMONSTRATOR FIRST.

LE-BOX-000

Index/control can for v0.1. No Raspberry Pi required yet. Holds the printed register, protocol card, spare labels, revision log, and cartridge map.

LE-BOX-001 TO 004

Four inert archive cartridges. Each holds one object, one provenance card, one removable tray, one viewing pane, and one self-contained light circuit.

DEFERRED TO V0.2

Raspberry Pi, small display, local catalog, and a monochrome menu. The index can become electronic only after the physical interaction is proven.

SUCCESS TEST

Hand someone one cartridge. If they understand one box, one object, one record, and one provenance trail, the prototype works.

EACH ARCHIVE BOX IS INERT, SWAPPABLE, AND REVERSIBLE.

ORIGIN OF LE-TUB.

LE-TUB entered the protocol during provisional container planning for larger plastic storage units. The first neutral candidate was LE-CONT, short for L'Archive Container. The operator rejected the euphemism.

Large Tupperware and plastic tubs were not to be disguised as more formal boxes. They could enter custody under their own plain name.

ONE BOX FIRST. THEN THE CLUSTER.

    Prototype

    Build LE-BOX-001 only. Test window size, tray depth, LED placement, label position, and lid operation.

  2. 02

    Clone

    Repeat the stable geometry for LE-BOX-002 through LE-BOX-004. Keep window, tray, card, and label positions standardized.

  3. 03

    Index

    Build LE-BOX-000 as a printed index can. Use a blank display plate only if it helps preserve the future v0.2 interface position.

  4. 04

    Document

    Photograph the finished five-box cluster and file it as the v0.1 reference build.

  5. 05

    Review

    Record what failed: latch interference, pane stress, weak light, messy labels, bad tray depth, or unclear status language.

  6. 06

    Advance

    Only after the physical protocol works, advance LE-BOX-000 toward the Raspberry Pi index.
